Waiheke Island is renowned for producing world-class red wines and more recently white wines as well.

Waiheke has become known as New Zealand's "island of wine," home to a dedicated group of winegrowers who have successfully matched the maritime climate and ancient soil structures to the selection of classical grape varieties to produce red and white wines with distinctive varietal character.

The climate is well suited to growing Bordeaux wine-type grapes, though some Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc varieties are also considered to be good.

Waiheke winegrowers regularly win awards for Syrah (Kennedy Point's 2007 Syrah won best Syrah in the world in 2009), proving the island's terroir suits it well.

Even garnet-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. The bouquet is very elegant and refined with fragrant red fruits along with spices and spicy oak, red florals and liquorice notes. A subtle lift adds to the aromatics, the and nose shows a fine core with fruit freshness and vibrancy. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich and lively aromatic red berry fruit flavours entwined with red florals, liquorice, and a layering of spicy oak. The mouthfeel has good vitality and energy with fine-grained background tannin structure and fresh, balanced acidity. The possesses linearity and drive, and carries to a sustained finish of red fruits and spices. This is a vibrant Pinot Noir with soft red berry fruit and floral flavours, spicy oak and fine structure. Match with pork, lamb and beef dishes over the next 6+ years. A barrel selection wine. An equal blend of clones 667, 777 and Abel from the ‘Ma Maison’ vineyard fully destemmed and fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 9-10 months in 30% new French oak barriques. 822 bottles made.

An engaging bouquet with aroma sof spice, toast, barrel, red fruits and a little bottle aged harmonising; quite complex and definitely intriguing. On the palate - delicious! I do like the way in which the oak and fruit talk, medium+ tannins with a fine texture from the fruit and youthful almost bold voice from the oak, medium+ acidity adds poise and length; balanced and well made with a lengthy and ngaging finish.
