Waitaki Valley
Like Burgundy, the Waitake region has limestone based soils. On the East Coast of the South Island, running between North Otago and Canterbury, this is New Zealand's newest and perhaps most exciting wine making regions. The climate is slightly cooler than Central Otago, as such, should not be over cropped; resulting in closely planted and insensitively managed vineyards.
